Knisco Inclusive Access: Year 1
Posted on December 07, 2018
What an amazing first year!
Knisco Inclusive Access have been fortunate to contribute to a range of projects this year including child care centres, secondary and tertiary education facilities , commercial buildings, office fitouts and refurbishments, health care buildings, residential buildings, aged care residential buildings and public transport, as well as proving expert opinion reports.
Knisco Inclusive Access is passionate about access within the built environment with an objective that everyone should be able to participate and engage in their activities of daily living without discrimination– be that, work, domestic/household activities, community engagement, or leisure activities.
As an access consultant our task is not always clearly defined. Our role is merely more than compliance with Building Code accessibility requirements. Our role may also involve providing recommendations to the client and design team to go over and beyond “minimum technical compliance” such as recommendations on furniture and joinery layout, lighting, finishes, acoustic treatments, signage and wayfinding, product selection, and universal and inclusive design elements. In addition to this, providing innovative solutions to achieve accessibility within challenging environments and in areas where topography may impact substantially, all of which will provide ease of movement throughout the spaces for a larger range of user groups including people with a disability.
We also value education with undertaking numerous presentations to many peers in the building and construction industry, this allows them to obtain a better understanding and knowledge in accessibility and inclusive design for people with disabilities.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has played an important role for Knisco Inclusive Access in our first year; the Knisco team, architects, project managers, building certifiers, builders, civil engineers etc. We are truly grateful for everyone’s support.
We look forward to next year - 2019!
